Our family story

It started on the front porch.

A Grand Street store. Tacos and tortas. And the Murguia family’s recipes from Guadalajara.

From Grand Street
to your table.

Jose and Patricia Murguia started selling tacos and tortas to earn extra money from their store on Grand Street. They soon added a front porch and transformed the space into a restaurant, naming it El Tejavan — “the front porch.”

Today, the Murguia family and their extended relatives cook homemade family recipes from their native city of Guadalajara for local patrons and those passing through. With two full-service restaurants along I-40 in Amarillo, the family’s food is part of the journey for travelers and part of home for locals. The kitchen serves fresh hand-made corn tortillas daily.
